Jay Patel

I saw examples of photographer Jay Patel's work on another blog& instantly loved it. His landscapes make great use of color and light to make his images more dramatic and stand out. Here is just a sample of his work.

Great use of light in the images above & below. really highlights the scene.

Love the clouds in this- both in the sky& water reflection. beautiful coloring.

I love the long exposure on this one to make the water look foggy- totally different mood and feeling to the image because of this but it's still beautiful. It's soft and relaxing.

Tourist composites

I found this on Yahoo recently and thought it was a pretty interesting concept.
Artist Corinne Vionnet "carefully layers 200-300 photos on top of one another until she gets her desired result." It's kind of interesting to see that so many people take almost identical pictures of the same landmarks which have become popular tourist spots. They seem almost painterly from the composites.

The man who isn't there

I saw this trending on yahoo so I decided to check it out and it's actually pretty cool. Liu Bolin has his body completely painted so he will blend into different backgrounds- and does such a good job that you could miss him in the picture. View the whole article and pictures here. It obviously takes a lot of time, talent, and patience of both Bolin and his assistants to pull these off- and they're not just ordinary, simple backgrounds.

(I needed the caption for this one- he's to the left, in between the 2 statues)

(same with this one- he's in front of the bulldozer wheel, look for his shoes)

Pretty crazy stuff!

Stephen Johnson

Randomly found this photographer, Stephen Johnson who does mainly landscape and nature work, which is what i hope to do in the future. His work "explores wild, endangered spaces, and human altered lands, while focusing on soft color and abstract design". He has worked on a variety of projects across the country & has had the opportunity to travel, which is something else I hope to do in the future. Most of his work has a soft & quiet feeling but he documents the world well and makes beautiful images.

Cool technique

These images are just amazing... not sure how long these exposures had to be to create this effect but it's really cool that they look like they were taken during the day but were actually taken at night. great images! view the whole story & pictures here.

Ice Festival

This is another thing that just amazed me. Who knew ice could be so beautiful? It's incredible to see the amount of detail put into this festival, and while I'm not a huge fan of the winter/ cold, this would be a sight to see and something I would definitely visit. The lighting of everything is just spectacular to me. I can only imagine what it would be like to see in person, it must be 100 times more amazing.

Some more pictures and information here and here.

Just amazing

Now this is what I want to do! Another reason I want to be involved with National Geographic. I am fascinated by the world around us, there is so much beauty that goes unseen. It just amazes me that things like this exist right next to us. I want to be able to explore places like this and capture them for others to see and to share with the world.
