Stephen Johnson

Randomly found this photographer, Stephen Johnson who does mainly landscape and nature work, which is what i hope to do in the future. His work "explores wild, endangered spaces, and human altered lands, while focusing on soft color and abstract design". He has worked on a variety of projects across the country & has had the opportunity to travel, which is something else I hope to do in the future. Most of his work has a soft & quiet feeling but he documents the world well and makes beautiful images.

Cool technique

These images are just amazing... not sure how long these exposures had to be to create this effect but it's really cool that they look like they were taken during the day but were actually taken at night. great images! view the whole story & pictures here.

Ice Festival

This is another thing that just amazed me. Who knew ice could be so beautiful? It's incredible to see the amount of detail put into this festival, and while I'm not a huge fan of the winter/ cold, this would be a sight to see and something I would definitely visit. The lighting of everything is just spectacular to me. I can only imagine what it would be like to see in person, it must be 100 times more amazing.

Some more pictures and information here and here.

Just amazing

Now this is what I want to do! Another reason I want to be involved with National Geographic. I am fascinated by the world around us, there is so much beauty that goes unseen. It just amazes me that things like this exist right next to us. I want to be able to explore places like this and capture them for others to see and to share with the world.

forgotten?

So I have not been on here in what seems like ages, probably due to the fact that I no longer am required to blog weekly for class, but its something I think I would like to get back into, whether anyone reads this or not. As an update on me, I am now a student at Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia, continuing to study photography & figure out what I want to do in the next few years as far as class projects and career wise. Ideally, I would love to be able to combine travel & photography as a career so we'll see where that goes. Im looking forward to the color technique class I am just beginning since I'll get back into shooting again, I havent been using my camera as much as I'd like to since graduation. Hopefully the motivation kicks in soon.

Nick Knight

Nick Knight is a British photographer who has worked with 8x10 cameras. While we didn't specifically cover this in Craft class, I figure that is the next step after 4x5. His first book was called Skinhead in 1982. He has since worked on other projects and is currently doing fashion photography and editorial work for magazines.

Stephen Shore

This week I decided to write about Stephen Shore since he was one of the pioneers of color photography in the 1960s and 70s. My favorite image from this group is the one with the mountain billboard. The blues and yellows work really well together and I like that it seems like the billboard could blend into the background and should be a real mountain. It's a nice play on scenery.
